A great article in Scientific American on mindset, something that I have been reading about a lot lately and plan on fostering in class this year. As a society we tend to praise those that have work come easy to them instead of praising the process that students go through to master a skill. Students with fixed-mindsets avoid challenges because they may make more mistakes and therefore look less smart. In class this year I am hoping to inspire students to be creative, to want to learn and apply more effort and that the end product is not always the important thing but that the process they went through is what really matters. Intelligence is not fixed, with hard work and education it can be fostered. A great book that parents can read to become more informed on this topic is:
